Calendar will not allow me to enter new appointments

Successful user of Outlook 2003, but a few days ago my calendar would not
allow me to enter any new appointments, change existing appointments and/or
open exisitng appointments. I have no idea what has changed or why this
functionality has changed.

Is your mailbox on an Exchange server, or are you using Outlook as just a
local PST file?
