Calendar Freezes

Good day,

I am running Outlook 2007 & have checked to make sure I have the latest
updates.
For the last week, each time I access the Calendar, Outlook freezes up (not
responding). I have to terminate the application and re-start.
I am not able to see the calendar at all.
I am running Vista Business.

Everything else in outlook works (mail & contacts).

I have tried to remove and re-install office. Updated the software. I have
also tried command line switches:
/CleanViews
/CleanFreeBusy
/CleanProfile
/CleanReminders

I have read thru the other answers on this subject and also searched the
internet for a possible solution.

Nothing I have tried has worked. Any suggestions on how to get the calendar
to work ?

This usually screams "Corrupted Recurring Meeting".

Here's what I used to do, there is probably something easier
out there but I haven't needed it for a while.

To detect the offending item:

1) Open the mailbox in Outlook
2) Create a New folder (Calendar Test)
3) Do an advanced find on the old calendar and sort events by recurrence.

- Press F3
- Change the Look For: text box to Appointments and Meetings
- Click on the Advanced tab
- Click Field
- Select All Appointment fields
- Select Recurring
- Condition: equals
- Value: Yes
- Click the Add to List button
- Click Find Now

Drop and drag from advanced find listed events one at a time to the new
calendar, when you get to the corrupt item it will give you an error
message. (delete this item)

Move all your calendar items from Calendar Test folder back to original
calendar (these are previously dragged over items).

If this does not fix the Calendar Freeze:

Try starting Outlook with the /safe command line switch. Go to the calendar
folder to see if Outlook freezes.

If there is a freeze I would guess one of the following.

1) A reminder or free/busy information couldn't be cleared. Try starting
Outlook with the /cleanfreebusy and /cleanreminders command line switch
while no items are stored in the calendar folder

2) A corrupted view. Try starting Outlook 1 time with the /cleanviews
command line switch

If there is no freeze when starting with the /safe switch -- visit the
folder you moved the items to and see if Outlook freezes. If it does, there
is still a corrupt item that Outlook can't deal with. If there is no
freeze, then I would guess that file outcmd.dat is corrupt. Rename this file
and restart Outlook. Outlook will recreate a new outcmd.dat file on open.

Outside of that --- beware of Offline Storage (*.OST) files. You might have
to create a new profile and temporarily disable Offline Storage while you
troubleshoot this issue.

I can open and create a folder in Outlook.
I am unable to access the calendar. If I click on the calendar Tab it
freezes up.
I have looked thru the search but it does not have an option to search thru
the calendar.

I have tried the /cleanfreebusy - still freezes (not responding error message)
then I tried /cleanreminders - still freezes (not responding error message)
Then I tried /Safe - for a while I am not able to access Outlook while it
repairs / fixes itself. Once complete, nothing appears - outlook is running
in safe mode but the boxes are all grey - you can not see anything. When
hovering the mouse over it, the mouse is lost.

I am not able to find the OUTCMD.DAT file.

I had one appointment and the reminder did come up but if I tired to access

What worries me is the re-settign all the time, at some stage I will corrupt
something else and then I have even bigger problems.

How do I disable / see if the offline storage (OST) file is creating an
issue ?

If I load outlook on another computer - can I copy and access the PST file
and see if that works ? It will not solve the problem but at leat I will know
if I am looking at a software issue on my PC or something in the PST file

Select the TOOLS menu
Select INSTANT SEARCH
Select ADVANCED FIND

Hi Nikki,

I am able to search and find recurring appts.
I deleted the few I do not need. I crreated a folder - Calendar test / when
I drag & drop it, it creates an e-mail, is this right ?

I have not done this as yet. The problem is still the same but I still need
to move the other items across - I jsut want to know that I am going in the
right direction.

I have noticed somethign else, if I create a folder I am not able to dleete
it. This is also the case for folders I already have. I can delete messages.
I have admin rigts on my computer - Control Panel - User Accounts - Manage
user accounts / under my login name - Administrators


The error message is: "Cannot delete this folder. Right-clcik the folder,
and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder. See the
folder owner or your administrator to change permissions. The folder is full."
I am not sure if this has anything to do with my orginal problem.

I would like to search all meetings in the calendar, it may be that but I
can not seem to find anything in the search. I was trying to find all
meetings created in the last month, maybe it is one of them that is corrupt.

When you create the new folder, it should be a CALENDAR
type folder. When you drop meetings into it, they will be meetings
not messages.

However with all the other problems that you are describing
there may be more going on than just a corrupt meeting.

Is this your personal computer at home or is it at work?

Hi Nikki,

I am now able to create and delete folders. Not sure what I did, if
anything, to fix it.

Please tell me how to create a calendar instead of a folder. Each time I
press on calendar, it freezes up Outlook.
I used "Create new folder" and select "Calendar" and I can see the directory
and I can create a folder in it. When I can not see it in my navigation pane,
when I go to "Calendar" it freezes up.

This is my work computer, it is a laptop runnig Vista bus.

I did the search and removed all the messages, saved the files in an e-mail
so I ahve the data, jsut need to re-type it. All my meetings are deleted,
thus the calendar should be empty.

It still does the same thing, even if I reboot the laptop.

I can create and see reminders. Now that everything is deleted I asusme I
will not see any reminders.

My one idea was to save all my data and settings and delete the PST file and
start a new one and see if that works. I have not done it as yet as I am
worried that I create more problems.
