Calculating time

I'm using Excel 2000...

I want to create a worksheet to calculate a range of time, i.e. 12:30-1:30,
display the total, then multiply $50.00/hour to the total time. My head is
spinning trying to get excel to calculate the range and come up with a dollar
amount result...

TIA!!

If you are putting 12:30-1:30 in a cell then you are giving yourself many
headaches. Try putting the start and finish times ,(as XL times like 12:30
and 13:30 or 1:30 PM), in different cells - say B2 & C2 respectively. The
formula for the elapsed time then would be:

=B2-A2

to use the time in a pay calculation multiply it by 24 then by the pay rate:

=(B2-A2)*24*50
