Calculating non-existant record on Subform

I need to calculate two fields, one of which is being obtained from a SubForm
where a record may sometimes not exist. Can anyone help me in doing this?
My brain is fried... I tried the nz function, with no luck. Please help...

The article explains how to use an IIf() expression to get the result from
the subform, and suggests a solution that will even work with Access 2007.
