"Calculating...." message and flickering

All of a sudden, it seems as if my database began slowing down, flickering,
and having the word "calculating...." appear along the bottom. Does anyone
know what causes this and how it can be fixed? I don't recall making any
major changes to the database that might have trigged this.

Have you by any chance applied conditional formatting to a calculated
control? This can cause flickering and an apparently endless
recalculation loop. The only workaround I know of is to remove one of
the two contributing factors: either don't use the calculated control,
or don't apply conditional formatting to it.
