calculating, branching in Word forms

I'm very familiar with doing mail merges in Word, and I've created a few
forms also, using dropdown and check boxes. But how can I do testing and
branching based on those responses? If "YES" is chosen from a dropdown box, I
want something different to happen than if "NO" is chosen. I've tried
inserting a calculation field. but that doesn't work. The same scenario might
occur if a checkbox is "activated."

Another item in the same line. How can I format telephone numbers or SS
numbers after someone enters them in a form? I'm surprised MS hasn't added
this type of formatting to the text box item in the forms toolbar.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very very much for your reply. It looks like it is exactly what I
needed.
