calculate average speed

one cell with 4:10 (h:mm) the other with 255.7 miles. How do I
calculate the average speed. My stupid way was to put 4 and 10 in
separate cells and caculate the total minutes and the find out the
speed. how can do it easier without adding new cells?

If A1 has 4:10 and A2 has 255.7, then =A1/A2/24 and reformat as general.

4:10 is part of a day -- noon is 1/2 day, so 12:00 PM formatted as general
will show .5; 6:00 PM is .75. 4:10 is 0.173611111111111
