calc.exe

my calc.exe has changed itself to calc.ex_ in widows/1386. I am left wondering why and looking for a fix. In fact it seems like all files in 1386 are showing underscore as the last letter of the file extension...

Hi chris,

That is normal. Most of the files in the i386 folder are compressed,
therefore the underscore in place of the last letter in the file extension.
If you were wanting to replace a file, for example the calc.exe file, you
would use the EXPAND command, which would decompress the calc.ex_ file into
the directory that you specify.

Err... those are not the apps, those are the files that are expanded to
become the apps. The I386 is the Windows installation folder - it's on your
machine because you have an OEM version installed by the OEM, or it was
copied there to save inserting a CD every time something is changed. Leave
those files alone. I bet if you search for calc.exe you will find it in
c:\windows\system32 (assuming XP is on the 'C' drive).
