Cable Selection

Hi there.
I'm sort of new to setting up a smaal network, but have managed to do so -
sort of.

Previously I had a network between my PC and Laptop - the cable had a
"cross-over" connection.
I now have smaal network with a hub. From the "server" to the hub, must the
wiring be "straight" or can I use my "cross-over" cable for this?

All the cables between PCs and the hub would normally be regular patch (not
cross over) cables.

If you want to use a cross over cable between any PC and the hub, plug it in
to the hub's uplink port.

Sorry that was part of my signature that I thought I'd cut and pasted to the
bottom of the posting. It has mothing to do with the topic.

Just read the text at the bottom of my previous message which said ...

Crossover cable will only work for PC to PC connections. OR hub to hub
connections without an uplink.

You'll need a straight through cable.
