Hi all. I have bigpond cable, and it runs on all the pcs, yet it drops out on
just this one. All have the same os, same ver and same updates. Pretty much
even the same software, and the same firewall. Yet every now and then, it
drops (doesn't disconnect, just doesn't react). Bigpond connection test says
its lost contact to ISP. After a few min, it works again and all is well. I
know this is something software related... it can't be a virus, i'm fully
updated, with a firewall, and spyware free... What is happening when it can't
connect???

Any help would be great.

Well Be sure the Connection is fitted okay (Cable,NIC) then do this :
Open a Run command and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns Click [OK]
ipconfig /renew click [OK]

netsh winsock reset <-(this the same as the winsock fixer below but
manual)
or you can download this tool to refresh the winsock VBs:

Does this PC connect first or last to the Network?.
You mentioned Anti-spyware but not anti-virus, you need to scan for Viruses
from another vendor to be sure all clean and your anti-virus doing it's job.
HTH.
Regards,
nass

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card, (or
whatever you use to connect; it could be a USB port.) click the Power
tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save
power".
