Hi there,

I hope this is in the right section.

I have major issues with XP pro right now. For no reason what so ever my
system crashed, rebooted it's self and gave me the following blue screen:

STOP: c000007b {Bad Image}

The application or DLL \??\WINDOWS\system32\user32.DLL is not a valid
windows image. Please chack this against your installation sickette.

I've tried the recovery tool when booting from the CD and I'm getting
nowhere, fast. I've tried to boot in sfae mode and I can't even get to that
screen.

If anyone can help me resolve this issue, I'd be so eternally grateful.

Kind rergards.

Do a CHKDSK from recovery console. report back if this doesn't fix the
issue.

Hi,

I've already tried that, and still not working.

I tried the following:

copy e:\i386\user32.dl_ [c:\windows\system32]

but I got the following message:

The file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.

So I tried just the first part and managed to copy the user32.dl_, but I
can't get it in to system32. If I managed to copy this file to the system32
folder, would it fix my problem?

Thanks for the help.

Try these commands:

rename c:\windows\system32\user32.dll c:\windows\system32\user32.old
expand e:\i386\user32.dl_ c:\windows\system32\user32.dll

The usere32.dl_ is a compressed version of the file and it needs to be
expanded in order for it to be usable by Windows.

Good luck

I tried:

ren c:\windows\system32\user32.dll c:\windows\system32\user32.old

and I got told 'The peramater is not valid'

I'll try the other way by going into the directory where the user32 is
stored and rename it from there. If that doesn't work, I'll just try and
expand the file anyway and see if it asks me to overwrite the user32.dll.

I need sleep.. wish me luck

Thanks again

I managed to expand user32 to system32 only to be told...

STOP: c0000135 {Unable to locate component}

This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found.
Re-installing this application may fix this problem.

I tried to expand winsvr.dll the same as I did user32.dll but to no avail.

How do you install anything via the recovery console?

I'm off to bed, so I'll check back in the morning.

Thanks once again for all the help, it's really appreciated.

You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error
message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

Hi Ron,

The link would have been useful if I could get on the internet or even into
my operating system. All I can do right now is turn my computer on, and
right after the loading screen I get the blue screen with...

STOP: c0000135 {Unable to locate component}

This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found.
Re-installing this application may fix this problem.

If there a way I could fix this or can it only be solved with an update I
can't get?

Were you able to read that Knowledge Base article by using another
computer?

You could try manually uninstalling Service Pack 2, which requires
that you boot the problem computer to the Recovery Console using
either the Windows XP Installation CD or the multi-diskette boot set
that you can download from Microsoft.

The uninstall instructions for SP2 are at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875350/

The boot diskette images can be obtained from

Ron,

It's going from bad to worse.

I did as the site said and removed SP2 via the recovery console (SP2 has
never been a problem though) and now I have a new blue screen error mesage:

A problem has been dectected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

If this is the first time... blah blah blah

Technical Information:

STOP: 0x0000006B (0x000007A, 0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Why do I get the feeling I may have to bike the bullit and go with a clean
re-installation =(

I was wondering... would it be better if I tried a repir installation?

That would be my suggestion. It is certainly preferable to doing a
clean install.

That is a rarely encountered error, and there is not much
documentation available for it. The name is
PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED and it seems to be most often
associated with a device driver or software compatibility issue. Older
versions of GoBack (when it was a Roxio product before Symantec/Norton
acquired it) are one known cause.

In your other response you mentioned doing a Repair Install and at
this point I think that this is probably your best option.

Good luck
