What does this mean? The beginning of the message reads:
Server error: Cannot open file - then rest of text as above.

I save anything I am trying to do - this message keeps coming up over and
over.

I am using Frontpage 2000

I have had major problems with my computer recently and had to have it
upgraded from Windows 98 to Millenium (I know I'm still way behind but s'ait
la vie)

Since then, not only did i lose my original copy of my website but I do not
know how to download the 'live' copy back onto my hard drive.

Any help would be gratefully received - but -as you can probably see, I am
not technically minded so plain english would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

ME is not an upgrade to W98...ME was the worst.

Sounds like your local copy of your web is wacked.

If your live site is current and your webserver has FP extensions installed
(and working). Open FP, then Open Web and type in the http:// address for
your web. This will open the site "live", then File | Publish Web and select
a NEW name to Publish it to on your local hardrive..in My Webs folder and do
a full publish.

Use windows explorer and browse to the :C:\ My Documents\MyWebs\_vti_pvt folder.
Delete the file named service.lck

Dear Rob

Many thanks for that!! At least I have now been able to put some really
important info on my homepage following a fire at my shop on new Years Eve
and change my email hyperlink!!
I have tried publishing my site to MyDocuments/MyWebs but nothing is
appearing. I also tried making a new folder called Christina-Kay and
publishing to that but again nothing is appearing when I try to open it in
Frontpage. Any ideas?

DO you think it would help if I simply unistalled frontpage and reinstalled
it from scratch?

You would enter the location and file name to publish to on the local
hd...something like c:\My Documents\My Webs\christinakay, then if there
wasnt a web already named that you would get a prompt to create one there.
Did that not happen?

Hi Rob!

No - no prompt for name or anything! Just a thought though, if I put a /
instead of a \ would that have made a difference? I put
c:/MyDocuments/MyWebs/ChristinaKay

No, that won't help.

After re-reading your original post do this:

Create a new empty disk based web with FrontPage, give it a name and save
it.

Close the new web.

Open the server version by opening http://yourwebname.com enter the user
name and password when prompted and then click File > Publish and publish
the web from the server to the new empty web you created.

yes it would...the slashes have to go they way they normally do on a hd, not
the direction they go on the web.
so yes they need to be \

Still no luck - even though I put a \ this time. I did notice that on the
bottom tool bar it said publishing to ///c:MyDocuments/MyWebs etc even though
I had put \'s. Also, I have been typinh MyDocuments and MyWebs each as one
word, should there be a space between the My and Documents etc.
