C-Media Sound Deviec - No Sound

G

I recently had occasion to replace my hard drive and once back up and running
I have no sound? As far as I can tell I have a C-Media AC97 Audio Device (a
small pink box inside the tower?) and I am running XP professional. In the
device manager there is the usual indicator of a problem and further
investigation seems to reveal a driver error. I located the C-Media website
and downloaded a driver and after installing it I am no further forward. The
device manager still identifies the problem as the driver, as I have made no
other changes I am not sure why I have this problem now and I would welcome
any help?

Thanks in advance

Go to the motherboard mftr.'s website to get the drivers for your
onboard sound. Or, if you have an OEM machine (HP, Dell, Compaq, etc.)
go to their website and get the drivers for your specific model
machine. Uninstall the drivers you got from C-Media first.
