I have a C-Media 8738 on-board sound chip. I have just
formated and reinstalled my win XP pro. After the
install of most everything EXCEPT any windows updates
when clicking on the MIXER icon in the system tray it
brings up the correct C-Media mixer. After installing
all the updates for Win XP clicking the MIXER icon now
brings up the default windows mixer but the system is
still using the C-Media mixer because all the sound using
the 3d-environment feature of the C-Media mixer. This is
just really wierd. Come on Microsoft, if your going to
bring out a patch to fix something make sure it doesnt
cause 3 more problems, because this all started shortly
after the BLASTER worm stuff. I have used 3 different
versions of the driver (the one on my motherboard disk,
the newest from the C-Media web site and the latest on
windows updated page) and still no luck.
