C$ Default Share shared for admin purposes. Permissions cannot be set.

Having switched from Simple File Sharing to Classic File sharing &
poking around I see my C drive is shared as C$, Default share.

I don't remember setting this up. Don't think I should be sharing my
whole C drive anyhow.

When I click on permissions it says

This has been shared for administrative purposes. The permissions
cannot be set.

I think I read where the purpose of $ prevents this share from showing
up in Network Places ??? Is this why this computer doesn't show up in
my workgroup?

Under the security tab there is

Administrators (ComputerName\Administrators)
Creator OWNER
Everyone
System
Users (ComputerName\Users)

each of the above with various permissions.
