C-D Drive short cut on desk top never works

I've put a shortcut to the c-d drive on my desk top, When I put a disc in
and double click the icon windows Xp home says that its searching for c-d
drive, Than it gives me a cannot locate the drive then gives me a folder or
path to something that is clearly not the drive...I've used the VB script
from kellys corner c-d dvd fix, But that doesn't stop this from
happing.....I can go into my computer double click on the c-d icon and it
will work that way, But not the shortcut on the desktop. Anyone have the
same problem? Or know of a fix ?..............Thanks.....Butch

Thanks for the reply....I checked Add/Remove, The Windows Update 821557 was
not there. Do you think
That maybe it was lost in the rollup Update that we had a while back?...I
Guess I'll have to wait for the fix.
Again , Thanks.....I really don't want to call microsoft like the link
states.............Butch
