Bypassing user's password

A friend of mine has winXP Pro. He created a user and
gave a pasword. He didn't work with his PC for 3 months.
He forgot his password and i will help him re-install
windows XP Pro.The problem is that he wants to backup the
folder "Documents and Settings" but when i put his HDD as
Slave on my PC i can't get access because of the
password. What should i do?

which operating system do _you_ use?

If you use Windows XP you have to take the ownership of the files. Here is
how to do it.
