bypass read only

I am trying to make design changes to a database. The person who created
this no longer works here. I tried holding down the Shift key when entering
the DB but still get the message that the db is read only. How can I bypass
this to make changes? There is no login ID or password required to enter the
database. I am using Access 2000. Thanks!

Do you have full access to the folder in which the database lives? Is
anyone else in the file?

Remove the "read-only" file attribute and/or get Full Control file
permissions to the folder where the mdb lives.

Try checking whether the read only attribute of the file is set to yes.
(right-click the file in Windows Explorer and choose properties).
