Yes it will ... it will run slower.

Always match existing ram ... or replace it. ;)

that doesn't make sense, AFAIK

DDR400 = PC3200
DDR333 = PC2700

unless you have DDR400 running at DDR333 speeds ?

if you have a stick of DDR333 then add a stick of DDR400 the DDR400 will set to the same speed as the DDR333

hmm. the ram stick doesn't tell me if it is DDR400 or DDR333...
just the thing that is under the ram (where you pud the ram in...)
says with big letters DDR400.
but that doesn't mean anything does it?
EDIT: i mean under the 3 ram slots.. i don't know what it is called
it's green..

Do you have an Athlon XP or Athlon 64?

RAM does not gain any advantage if it is asynchronous. That is - if you have a processor running at 200fsb you will want PC3200 RAM running at 400mhz at 100%. If you had a processor running at 166fsb, and stuck PC3200 with it, it would be limited to run at 333mhz. If you set the RAM in the BIOS to run at 120% you wouldn't actually benefit. However, I only think that is strictly true for NForce 2 (Athlon XP) boards. Still - always make the processor and RAM synchronous for the best results.

Anyway, I just felt like waffling. Here is your answer: *Always use the same RAM*. If you start using different speeds of RAM, or even the same spec of RAM from different manufaturers, you are just asking for instability. Generally. You MIGHT get away with it, and you won't damage the HARDWARE as such, you'll just make everything dodgier to a certain degree.

I agree I've just looked up the mobo on the ASRock site and it has 3 slots, taking up to 2 GB of PC2700 DDR333.

It would have been better and cheaper to match the one already installed;)
