Buying Extra XP Licenses?

I read/heard a rumor that you can contact Microsoft and purchase
another license/CD-key to use to install Windows on another computer
in your house from an already purchased copy.

For example. I bought XP Home. Now my mother wants to put it on her
computer. Does she need to go out and buy a copy for herself for the
$99?

I thought you could purchase another license for like $40 or something.

I searched the site here, but found nothing.
Thanks for any help.

Greetings --

Yes, that's possible to buy additional licenses, assuming you have
a retail license. Naturally, Microsoft cannot sell additional OEM
licenses. Be aware, however, that you'll probably pay more this way
than you would if you were to buy a second copy of WinXP from a
discount retailer; Microsoft will only offer you a 15% discount off
their MSRP.

But the discount is small and you may well find that a discount store
for a regular new copy is cheaper
