Buying an LCD Monitor - Qs

I want a video card that only has DVI, but I am interested in some LCD
monitors that are analog. Is a converter OK, or would it noticeably
degrade the picture and speed?

I found LCDs with response times ranging from 8ms to 25ms. Obviously 8ms
is the best, but what is the maximum that is decent enough for gaming on
a 17” LCD? 19” LCD?

A CRT is best for gaming. I've read that 16 ms is the slowest you
should consider for gaming. Eight ms lcd are not hard to find.
It's not easy to judge by the manufacturers hype as those numbers can
be the average response time. It doesn't mean you'll see timing like
that under the conditions you'll use it in.
That said, I just got a samsung 19" rated at 8ms. Under games like
doom3 and halflife,
I don't notice any difference from my 19" crt. Other games like quake3
that I get higher frame rates in, there's a noticable difference. No
ghosting though and after a few minutes
I get used to it.

Not anymore.

I have an LCD and a CRT and the CRT is clearly better for games. I
can't be bothered to get into this argument once again, been over it
too many times before, but if you don't know what the reasons are then
look it up.

I do know the reasons...I've been building PCs and gaming on them for a
decade and a half.

You're basing your opinion on ONE model of ONE brand of LCD.

AFA LCD's go(in gaming scenario) you have only a handful of high priced
models to chose from AND those might compare to a CRT's output on its worse
day.
