Business Contact Mgr - data loss and history list problem

M

Hi,

I am testing BCM to see if I can use it instead of ACT!
but I'm having problems. The import from ACT seems to
work (but I have not checked all info yet) however:

- Notes (Details) from tasks dissapear when you import to
BCM. I did find some entries in Journal but it does not
seem like all of them and why are they not available via
Contact History?

- Alternative contacts are lost in the transfer, is that
correct?

Contact History...
- I cant see which task are open and which are done, why??

- If I use Customize Current View to add fields then ALL
tasks/contacts/etc from all your contacts are added to
the list! Removing the field I added still leaves me with
all the tasks on the history list.

Any suggestions as to why??

If you're importing tasks into your task folder, they will not be
automatically linked to BCM. You'll need to relink them by opening up the
task and using the BCM toolbar to link them to a contact.

What do you mean by Alternative contacts?

The Contact history is designed to display all items linked to the business
contact. As such, it cannot display all the fields applicable for tasks,
emails, notes, meetings, etc. You can customize the view.

Customizing the view however as you've seen is a little unpredictable. If
you haven't yet downloaded the technical refresh for BCM and Office, do that
first. It fixes many problems that were present in Beta 2.

I have installed the latest refresh so that should be ok
(version 1.00.1809.02 is the running).

Alternative contacts: In ACT you can associate three
alternative contacts to each main contact (with title and
phone). I cant find any of that after the import.

The tasks: They are already listed under each contact
but, as I said, when I open an item (task, phone call,
etc) there is no additional info (comments).
To give an example: I have looked at one business contact
who originally had 18 historical activities with notes
associated to it (phone calls, meetings, to-do's, etc).
After the import I can find 10 but its only a "heading",
the comments that were there are gone.
Have looked in Tasks - same result, in Business History -
nothing but a lot of notes from one contact (only)...

Task list:
Sorry, getting confused here. Have been lookin at what
you described while I'm writin this and if I understand
correctly:
- Planned tasks are sent to the Tasks list after import?
Problem is now that you cant see what was planned (mail,
make call, etc), its just a task. Correct.
- Historical items are sent to Business Ctc. Hist. which
seems logical (if you can assume that all items in that
list is just that, history). Correct? Problem is that
info (comments) has dissapeared.
I would of course like to be able to see both planned and
finished activities from the Bus. Ctc. "card"...

Now, following that logic, where do you plan new
activites for a specific contact? If you open a contact
and click "Add.." then add a new task for next Friday it
adds that task to the Bus. Ctc. Hist. list. So, I have a
mix of future and history items in the same list and I
cant see which is which.
I have tried field chooser, customise view, etc but I
must say its pretty confusing. And some actions loads all
the e-mails, actvites for all the contacts...

Is there a simple way of doing this?

I got a log file during the import, have enclosed a few
lines from it, maybe it explains something?

Regards,

Magnus
