Can someone tell me if there's a way to burn an entire web to a CD?
Thanks for any & all advice. I've had 2 hard drive failures in the past
couple of months and it sure is a struggle getting my sites up & running
again :(

yes,
you just publish the web from it's current location to a new folder, for
instance make a new folder on your desktop, and when you bring up the
publish dialog box in FrontPage browse to it, and publish there.

then burn that whole folder to a cd.

bringing it back in you'd just copy it from the cd to a location on your
hard drive but you must right click the folder, select properties, then
clear the "read only" check box. you should be prompted if you want to do
just that folder or it, and all of it's contents. take the "all" choice.
then you can open and publish this web as usual with FrontPage.

If it's a server-based Web, publish it to a disk-based
location.

Now that you have a disk-based Web, start your CD creator
program and burn the contents.

Just burn the web folder to the CD..

If this is for a back-up you might want to use a RW so you can rewrite over
as you need to keep current...

But if the web is published then you can always open the site in FrontPage
and publish it back to your hard drive...

If you're wanting to put the site on a CD for distribution...
You might want a look at this first...
A lot of good information...

Then here for the autorun CD stuff

Worked like a charm! Thanks, again.

don't forget to unmark the "read only" on it. it's very easy to do in
windows xp, but I remember on windows 98 it was remarkably difficult.

Thanks, will do..kept the notes in a file, and also printed them out &
attached it to the CD case.

You can get around the read only attribute problem by zipping the site
before copying to the cd.

I don't know Wes, I tried .zipping it first, burning it to a CDR, and
everything else I could think of on my old system. it seemed that the only
way to "un mark" it as read only was an "X-COPY" DOS command which I never
got the hang of. ;-)

this ability alone was worth the upgrade to XP.

Maybe it's an xp thing then. I just tried zipping a site and burning to cd.
The zip file was marked with an r attribute, but the files within the zip
remained intact. After unzipping to a folder, there were no r attributes.
I then burned the entire site to the cd without zipping and peeked at the
results. All files were marked with the r. I then copied entire site to a
new folder and there were no r attributes......it's magik. Also, FWIW,
there is a program called CROA that will allow you to change all attributes
in a folder.

CROA is not needed in XP...

Right click on the folder go to properties and clear the "Read Only"
attribute..
Then another window opens and you have the choice
"Apply to this folder only" OR
"Apply to this folder, subfolders and files"

I was referring to Chris' "old system" in which CROA is a great improvement
over a DOS command. Anyway, xp seems to figure out when to change the
attribute on it's own. Wish they had documented this in it's [features].
:<)

besides that have you seen the "power toys". some are kind of silly but the
slide show maker is fairly cool, you can output it's shtick to a folder,
import that folder into FrontPage and publish it. good JavaScript pieces in
there too if you like that sort of thing.
