burning music cd's

I'm having trouble burning a music cd on windows media player. It will burn
the first and sometimes the second song, and then it quits and doesn't finish
the rest.
What is the exact speed i should have it on ?? At first it was on "fastest"
, then i tried "16x" and also tried "8x" ???
Sorry, i dont' know all that much about burning cd's.... i just wanted to be
able to put a blank cd in and get my music :o)
