I know you can burn your movies to a CDR and watch it on the computer, but
how can i watch it on a DVD player? Would i need a DVD burner and would it
work with windows movie maker? I basically am taking home movies and wanting
to edit them and put them on DVD to watch on DVD players.....thanks!

I've often wondered why MS release these programs supposedly as free extras
when they are only half a program.
1. Movie Maker which can't handle MPEG files or burn to DVD and you still
have to buy other software.
2. XP firewall which only blocks incoming, not outgoing traffic. Again
you've got to buy 3rd party firewall or use one of the free ones like Zone
Alarm.
3. XP CD burning wizard which is totally useless and again you've got to buy
a proper one like Nero.
Anyone got any more to add to the list?

No, you do not have to have a DVD burner.
There are many programs with the ability to
create a VCD which is done with a regular
CD-R. VCDs will play in most DVD players.

Check the documentation for your burner...
you may have software installed that can
create a VCD. My burner came with a Program
called WinDVD Creator by Intervideo...it
works nicely...and they play on my Toshiba
DVD player.

Here's some info on creating a VCD with
"MS Plus! SuperPack for Windows XP"
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/plus/photos.asp
There are also some sample Photo Stories
you can download.

A couple of other programs with the VCD
option are:

MS Digital Image 2006 Suite

Corel Photo Album 6

It is a movie "EDITOR" and it does exactly that.

Relying on free protection with all the garbage that is out there is foolish
to begin with. I run the XP firewall, a purchased and reputable firewall,
and I have AdAware with spywatch and Spybot S&D installed.

What exactly is wrong with the CD burning wizard?
You don't need to buy a "proper" one like Nero except for burning DVD's
which are clearly not CD's.

Not true.
You will need the software but you do not need a DVD burner.
With most DVD Authoring software you can create a Video CD (VCD) which is a
small DVD that fits on a CD.
