Hi,
I upgraded to XP Professional from Win 2000 several
months ago. I have all the incompatibilities worked out
except for one. I am able to read my existing CD-Rom's,
but I am not able to backup data (text files) to CD. I
am able to move the files to the staging area, but the CD
Writing Wizard fails with "Cannot complete CD writing
wizard". Its not clear to me what software is being
used. I have old copies of DirectCD and EasyCD
installed. I got the PC several years ago and I'm not
sure if the compatibility problem is with my software or
the CD-ROM drive itself? I was able to write to CD
before I upgraded to XP. Do I need to format the CD for
XP? Do I need to purchase a new version of Easy CD?

Thanks,
Barbara

Barbara, I have a similar problem. I can copy files to a
CD but only sometimes. I want to transfer the copied
files to my laptop but they are sometimes called "read
only" and I can't change that even when I try in
the "properties". Can someone out there advise?

I took the plunge and installed Nero. Good investment. I've never looked
back!

Barbara,

I have no solution but have experienced a similar problem
via upgrading from Windows Me to XP. I can read all my
old CD-R's (made under Windows ME) and copy FROM them,
but I cannot copy new material TO them (I receive an
error message saying the files on the disk are read-
only). Roxio has a disk recovery method in their Direct
CD option, but it takes forever. I hope someone out
there has an answer.
