burning cd's

Can anyone explain to me why I cannot burn CD's faster than 16X? It takes
about 9.5 mins to burn, using all three drives at once, from an MP3 file
which is about 60mins long. Even with only 1 drive, the same speed limitation
applies.
I am using MPO Diamond media which I hope is good quality.

Using the following setup:
3 off Asus CRW-5232AS "52speed" CDRW drives
Asus A7N8X-E Motherboard
512 Mb ram
3000 AMD XP CPU
120 G SATA Hard Disk
LG 4120BB DVD
XP with SP2
Latest version Nero 6.6.0.6

Two CDRW's on Primary IDE (one master, one slave)
One CDRW on Secondary IDE as Master, with DVD as slave

I tried to update the CDRW drivers, but all I could find on the Asus website
was a "firmware" update, Is this the same thing?? Anyway I have upgraded the
firmware on the Asus 5232as drives to V1.03

I presume the drivers listed under device manager for the CDRW's are
standard for all drives - they dont need updating?

Any help most appreciated

if it takes 9 minutes to burn a cd then it is not even burning at 16x. At
16x you should be able to burn a 80 minute cd
in less than 5 minutes. The media sets the speed of the burn.
