Burning CDs with XP

I was told that XP has a built in drag / drop / burn feature, where
you simply drag a file or group of files into the CD burner's folder,
drop them, and start burning a CD. Is this true?

I am still using Windows98 (by choice). But trying to burn a CD is 98
is beyond comprehension and takes hours to figure it all out, make ISO
files, and all that nonsense. I'm just trying to backup some data
such as my photos. I really dont want to upgrade to XP and likely
dont have enough power to run it smoothly. However, if I am
considering installing a barebones dualbooted copy of XP (using fat32
so I can access my Win98 data), and just use it for burning CDs and
maybe a few other things that cant be done with Win98.

First I want to know if it really is this easy to burn CDs using XP,
and whether the burner software is included.

Finally, if all of this is possible, what do I do to get the most
barebones installation possible? For example, I do not want games,
dont want IE or OE, and most other addon stuff. I just want the basic
operating system. I dont intend to connect to the internet with XP at
all. If I could, I'd install it on my spare computer, but that PII
500mhz w/256m RAM is likely wayyyyyyy too slow.
I do think this PIII 1000mhz w/512m Ram should run it.

On another note, can Windows 2000 also burn CDs like XP?
I already have Win2K, so I dont have to buy XP, and it would probably
run faster on this older computer. All I know, is that burning CDs
with Win98 is almost impossible.

It'd be a shame to have to go through all that just for the one exercise
you need to do.

Have you looked at the free CD burnging utilities? There are quite a
few of them and I see someone has posted a few of them.
IMO NERO is probably the best alternative and they also handle win98.
You might have to look a bit to find the 98 compatible; haven't been
there in some time. Can't hurt to at least look.

I had no problems burning CDs with Win98.

It's DVDs it can't handle.

And I've had a lot more problems burning CDs with XP.
