Burning CDs in Vista

My daughter has an Acer with Vista. I used the burners that were installed
with Vista and burned all my data onto a CD. My computer with Win2000Pro,
will not recognize either one. I tried to install MY HP burner since Vista
seems to recognize every driver in the universe. Software EasyCD was
installed just fine. Vista will not recognize the burner.

My question is: How can I make Win2000 recognize either of these CDs or do I
have to use the Vista programs in a different way? I am perplexed! Thanks!

The problem is that Vista has a system called MASTERED that is not
compatible with older systems, Thats why its better to use a 3rd party
burner program

You are kidding right? Are you saying Vista can't natively burn a portable
CD or DVD yet?

i gave more info later on in another post in that thread to clarify..

vista has 2 ways to burn: Live and Masterd

Live is NOT compatible with older OS's
and Mastered is...

But in any case I always perfer pesonaly to use a third party app to burb

cdburnerxp pro is free and also deepburner is free

I hear you on third party, almost always use that in XP. But Masterd is the
way to go if using Vista. I like those files portable.

In my own defense, I am a Googlin' fool! It seemed I couldn't find the right
things to search for. I even went to all the MS pages Google found and the
only thing I really found was references to UDF and CDFS ways to burn to CDs.

I am going to ask cc: what two different ways to format? There are two media
programs that burn CDs on her system. One is some default program Vista threw
in and I suspect the other is an ACER thing. I might say right here that I
really do not her system and the way all that cr** is integrated!

Give me my Win98SE or this OS, Win2000Pro any day. Or I need to figure out
how to get around some of that integration.

bandwidth and only made cc look even more stupid...if that's even
possible...LOL!

Well, this answers my question about why Frank said that. I took it as stark
sarcasm and a jab at me, who he might have thought was a newbie. I am not.
BUT I learn all the time from forums like these. I am an advanced member in
That Computer Guy's forums.

I have been building, rebuilding, repairing, upgrading, etc etc from
software to hardware for a number of years. And, heh, I am female and older
than most people who do those things.

So, cc, thank you for coming to my rescue and sending me a valuable link to
solve the problem. And, Frank, do you have a solution to my problem? The ONLY
stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Ummm what exactly did I start here? Vista has a Mastered AND a Live File
system. I am not sure how to change to one or the other or if I can, indeed,
burn a CD that will be compatible with 2000Pro. That is the question and it
appears that I cannot burn a CD in any Vista media and have my system read
it. So, apparently Vista can't.

I didn't see your other thread, but that is okay. This ABSOLUTELY answers my
question and clears up Mastered and Live File for me. Now to figure out where
in Vista to change it. I am going to assume in Control
Panel/System/something. Since Vista is new to me, I will look there to start.
THANK YOU, CC!!!!!

ok jann...sorry if you got 'played" by cc. He likes to hear himself
talk. He suffers from diatribitious...excessive verbiage. Also known as
"talking too much and yet saying nothing". It's like some kind of a
social disease. I think you're born with it and there is no cure.

So...insert a new disk into your burner. Go to your computer and right
click on your CD/DVD and select properties/recording/Global Settings and
make sure you have a check mark in..."automatically close the
current...etc".
When you're finished recording, right again and chose "Close session',
just to be sure.

It should then work in any player.
HTH,
Frank
