Burn To CD

Jerry

I recently replaced my CD-RW with a Sony 52/32/52 CD-RW
and installed the Ahead Nero Software that came with it.

When I tried to burn a CD, it said it would takehours to
burn it. The literature that came with the CD-RW said
that there is a known conflict with Windows XP burner and
recommended unchecking "Enable CD Recording On This
Drive" in properties, which I did, but it did not resolve
the problem.

I then removed the Ahead Nero Software and rechecked that
box.

Now, when I open a video file, the option to "COPY TO CD"
which had previously appeared on the panel on the left,
is no longer there.

I tried re-installing Windows XP Home Edition, but that
did not help.

Where did I err ??

Thanks !

Hi Jerry,

Start/run msconfig, go to the services tab. Is the Imapi burning service
listed and is it enabled? This is the native burning service, and should
only be enabled if there is no third-party burning engine installed.

I have the Sony external and think it's great for CD and
DVD. But years ago I just quit using CD-RW because of the
time factor, which seems to relate to formatting. I use
only CD-R's and toss 'em if necessary. Cheaper, faster,
less frustration. I don't miss CD-RW's at all.

Time to update. CDRW are great and formats are simple and quick. Roxio has a
quick format feature that takes less than three minutes to format a cdrw for
packet writing on my 1ghz 512mb sdram computer.

Hi Rick -

I did as you suggested and found that the IMAPI Burning
Service WAS enabled. I unchecked it and rechecked it and
rebooted as prompted. No Luck. The Burn to CD option is
still missing.

Any other suggestions ???

Thanks,

Jerry

The burning in Windows Media Player uses that same inbuilt service. If
you have a third party program like Nero, you are better to use it for
all purposes. Also go to www.nero.com and make sure you have the latest
build of whichever major version you have (probably version 5)
