Bulleting a list?

Hi, I have a group of sentences. I want to put a bullet (from the page theme)
in front of each sentence. I highlighted the group of sentences and went to
"format"> bullets & numbering>use picture from theme "ok". But, nothing
happens. The most I've been able to get is one bullet before the section.
What am I doing wrong?

Each sentence must have <p> (ENTER key) at the end.

when you do that and get the bullet on the first item, set your cursor just
before the next item in the list and backspace till it's inline with the
first bulleted item, then hit the enter or return key on your keyboard, that
will make it the next bulleted item. just repeat the process for each item.
