It is not driver problem -
Ms Messenger leaves some background processes going - reserving webcam -
it not needs uninstalling driver.

all what they can say is that this is not a hardware problem and that i
shound uninstall windows live messenger ( quite strange a webcam that could
not work with msn... what is that webcam for then) or restaure the pc as it
was when bought (very convenient solution !) or send it back where i bought
it !

Microsoft isn't going to fix it even if they do, it has to be done by the
system manufacturer. This isn't an operating system problem, it's a software
issue related to supporting the hardware.

Hello

I do not understand

When you write :"Then I tried updating one of the "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera"'s
"

you updated automatically? (as for me windows says the driver is already up
to date) or dowloaded an other driver somewhere first?

Thanks

Hi
I don't know what exactly fixed the problem but I managed to fix the
locked by an application problem. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A215 by
the way.

Here's what I did
Control Panel >> System Maintenance >> Device Manager

Go to Imaging Devices and right-click "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera" and
choose "Update Driver Software"

First I clicked on "Search automatically for updated driver software"
but everything was already up to date.

So then I went to "Browse my Computer for Driver Software" and then to
"Let Me Pick from a List". I updated the USB Video Device and rebooted
but that only made it worse I think because a new error came saying that
my webcam can't start.

Then I tried updating one of the "Chicony USB 2.0 Camera"'s (there
should be two of them) and that seemed to do the trick. I didn't even
have to reboot. I just opened up my webcam and the image was there.

I found a solution that seems to be working (up to now) :

but i can no longer user the chicony software to take pictures or just see
the video

When i try to open "C:\Program Files\Camera Assistant Software for
Toshiba\traybar.exe" a message box says :

"Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer"

Thanks

CHECK COMPATIBILITY OF THE PROGRAM. ITS OPERATING SYSTEM MAY NOT BE ACCEPTE
THE DRIVE . OR ITS PROGRAM OF THE UPDATED MESSENGE IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO
ACCEPT YOUR DRIVER. UPDATE PROGRAM OF MESSENGE. ATTENTION ITS OPERATING
SYSTEM HAVE TO BE TRUE SO MICROSOFT CAN NOT THE USE OF DRIVE AND OTHER
PROGRAMS.
