Built in CD burning functionality question (finalization)

Hello

I often use the built in cd burning feature for backing up, however
sometimes XP finalizes (or close) the CD so that I can read it on other
cdrom drives and sometimes it leaves the session or the disk open. Most of
my cdrom drives will not read open discs. If it leaves the disk open, then
I can only read it with other cd burners in XP but not normal cdrom drives.
If it finalizes the disk or closes it, then I can read the disk in any cdrom
drive.

How can I make sure that XP always will finalize the disc? Is there a
command line command or switch to force finalization at the end of writing?
Maybe a registry setting?

Is there a way to close a disk that was left open after burning?

Thankyou for your help on this.

XP will normally close the session, but leave the disk open. There is
no alternative provided.

It is these days a very unusual case where a CD drive in a Windows
system will not read such a disk.

Finalising relates to something different - if you burn a Packet written
CD R or RW in a package like DirectCD or InCd, in UDF file system, then
'finalising' writes extra info allowing the disk also to be read in a
setup that does not support UDF. But the inbuilt burning is not of this
sort.
