Building a Critical Path in Excel 2003

Hello!
I am preparing for my research a excel based Critical Path for garmen
manufacturers/wholesalers etc.

In effect , at the start of every fashion season, a manufacturer make
a range plan, which consists of (lets say ) a 100 designs, which the
need to be prototyped ( or sampled ) and then produced .

This needs TRACKING at every stage . So projected dates of every stag
are calculated, and actual dates need to be recorded against projecte
dates to see if the process was quicker or had delays.

Each style needs a lot of detail to be recorded in it (see w/boo
attached, see sheet marked 'stylesheet').

However, and as there are a 100 styles (and therefore a 100 stylesheet
) this data needs to then be easily SUMMARISED on a master sheet (se
'summary sheet'). The aim is that the summary sheet automaticall
updates all the info based on info entered into the individual styl
sheets .
Some of this I have done, and you can see how it works in the boo
attached .

However, I have several questions, and any help would be greatl
appreciated :
1.I am beginning to feel my format is overcomplicated purely because
don’t know Excel too well, and cannot see a simpler solution – an
ideas ?

2. In my Style sheet is a row marked ‘Comment’. Ideally what I wante
to do was update comments on that style in a sort of diary log manner
for example – 3/09- Supplier can not do green colourway. 4/09 – Supplie
has ordered buttons in pink. (and so on ). Eventually , this woul
become a daily chart of progress (comments wise ) per style. The proble
that has arisen is that as the comments will probably all add up to
lengthy section, I want to HIDE any non current comments and just leav
the most recent ( for examples today’s ) comment on view. This in itsel
is easy to do , but I ALSO want the SUMMARY SHEET to reflect ( in th
comments area ) ONLY the latest comment, which needs to be update
automatically from the style sheet of that style, So the summary shee
should have (for example ) on the 4/09 a comment saying Supplier ha
ordered buttons in pink, REPLACING the comment from 3/09 Supplier ca
not do green colourway, as this is outdated.

3.In the PRICE section on the style sheets is a column marked ‘mode’
What I want this to be is a TRIGGER to set off a certain calculation
depending on what is entered in mode . So for example , -
- If mode reads LANDED , then the formula must carry out a set o
mathematical calculations which I need to program it to do .
- If mode reads FOB, then ANOTHER formula with a set of differen
calculations will kick in .
( I think I do this all by having a hidden sheet with formulas fo
LANDED, FOB etc, but Im not sure I know how to do this ) .

Of course if any of you are looking at the attached file and thinkin
it looks too overcomplicated/detailed and canb suggest
simpler/cleaner alternative, that would be very welcome too !

Thanks in advance to all your constructive reverts an
suggestions/solutions.

Wonkat
PS - If you require any further info/clarifications that might assis
in understanding what I am trying to do, please ask
