!!Bug Report!!

I've noticed that consistent use of high levels of RAM and CPU Processor for
an extended period of time has the following result:

The taskbar scrambles itself. The icons in all tray areas relocate
themselves to new locations on what is left of the taskbar image. Start
Button operation becomes impossible; when managing to get cursor to activate
Start Button a shadowed, highlighted area appears on desktop; items in Start
Button do not display at all. Limited fixes used: use of Task Manager (using
Alt-Cntrl-Delete) brings up Task Manager; do a restart or shutdown. Also,
putting Notebook into Sleep mode and Waking it up will rectify the problem,
too.

Hi Caretaker...Got the machine brand new last week! Norton 360 has been
protecting it since original startup configuration.

Hi Conley!

Thanks for the tip. I checked the installed program list (retagged in Vista)
and discovered the fix you asked about wasn't among the programs listed. I
found the Microsoft file and downloaded and installed it at 3:19 today
(Saturday). I will be watching this closely. It's been a real problem having
to do a restart to get the task bar unscrambled and usable.

Conley!!!

I pushed the O/S a little and ran a couple processor intensive programs:
Second Life and Finale 2008 (www.makemusic.com) for several hours last night.
NO PROBLEMS! NONE! The icons in the taskbar remained where they were supposed
to be. Many, many thanks! By the way, the Microsoft upate you suggested isn't
showing among the other programs in the Programs and Features Folder of the
Control Panel The installation definitely took place--and solved the problem!

Have a great one!

I am glad it worked out. It sounded like a problem I had had on one of my
computers.

By the way, to check on the status of updates, click on Windows Update in
Control Panel and then click the link re "View update history."

I hate to say this but Nortons lost the plot back in 2005. AVG free finds
stuff Nortons 360 doesn't know exists.
