Bug in cross referencing--can I fix the automatic insert page bre

Hi,

I am working with a 400+ page document, and I have many cross references to
tables and figures. However, some of the time the cross reference inserts a
page break:

See

-------
table 4-5.

I manually delete the page break and it returns the next time I open the
document.

I am using Word 2002.

Is this a bug and if so is there a way around it?

Thanks

Somehow a manual page break has been included into the hidden bookmark that
Word uses for the cross-reference (REF) field. Usually, it happens when you
insert the break with the insertion point at the beginning of a bookmarked
paragraph. Delete the manual page break and use "Page break before"
formatting instead (Paragraph dialog box, Line and Page Breaks tab). Then
update the cross-reference with F9.
