Black (not blue) screen of death !
....any idea what causes it ?

It's happened three or four times on Dads' PC, across the past 6 or 7 years.
The first, and second time it happened I ran extensive diagnostics on all
hardware and could find no faults.
Anyhooo, it happened again this morning when my niece swtiched it on -
BlackSOD ... press r to boot to the recovery console etc .....type of
BlackSOD !

....so had to Ghost restore from 5th Nov. from ext. hd so not much
inconvenience but, why does XP Home SP3+ all up to date go BANG now and
again ?

XP is fine AFAIK. Dad probably has visited some dodgy sites along the
way and installed some malware. :) (At least that would be my guess.)

Thanks, ...I had spotted recent talk on this BlackSOD and followed some of
the talk, including talk about PrevX accusing recent MS updates of causing
it - apparantly PrevX apologised.
btw Dad would not have visited any sites, (he hardly ever uses his PC),
likely to have delivered malware, plus his PC has AVG full internet security
suite, and an up to date hosts file from mvps.org.
More likely it could have contracted something while my niece was very
recently using it - i.e. it always seems to go "bang" after she's been using
it to access Bebo / Facebook and all that sort of c**p !
I'll have to spend some time on it with AV-CLS and MBAM and Gmer etc. !!!
