I keep receiving this blue screen stop error message. I can't find any
specific info on it in MSKB. But when I "Report this error to MS" thru the
send error report function, it tells me that this error has been fixed in
the first service pack and it has something to do with the graphics driver.
I find this hard to believe because the file listed in the BSOD is ndis.sys.
0xd1 (0x08, 0x02, 0x00, 0xfc35df35) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. It occurs when
coming out of hibernation. I was hoping to find the KB article with the
hotfix because we have software not compatible with service pack 1 so
installing it is not an option. There are no driver updates for the video
card and the pcmcia nic card only has drivers for "Whistler Beta" version
which are unsupported. So updating drivers is not really an option either.
Any suggestions or clues? TIA.

Fix your software so it is compatible with service pack 1.
Service pack 2 will be coming out soon. If you don't keep
up, you'll fall farther and farther behind. When you call
Microsoft for support, the first they're gonna tell you is,
"Well, first you've gotta update to Service Pack x."

What NIC card?

Bump. Please help MS MVPs!

Thanks for the response rickm. The pcmcia nic is a 3com 3ccfe574bt. The KB
article you referred to is for w2k and nt4. This machine runs xp. Also, I
already have the stop code, but thanks. :)

I'm just popping in here with a thought, so forgive me if it's already
been suggested: just uninstall the 3com and install a different NIC.
You can buy one for under $10.

Change the PCI slot which the nic is in to another one.

Good point about changing the slot. Some m/b's aren't happy with
anything in slot 5 if you have a Soundblaster for instance. If you've
already tried moving to a different slot, then I still say use another
NIC.

As an alternative to using a dedicated IRQ, you might want
to use a USB NIC. If home networking is not an issue then
the 11 Megabyte transfer rate for USB-1.0 works fine.
Microsoft Broadband has both a standard NIC and also a
Wireless USB NIC. I believe they are around $30 at Best
Buy, CompUSA, etc. The side benefits are that you don't
have to open the case to install/uninstall and it lowers the
thermal conditions inside the PC (Slightly).

Thanks for all the input. After much time and trial and error, the culprit
turns out to be these machines not being able to support the power saving
features. The machines are older Compaq Armadas at 333mHz and 600mHz, all
of which have no power options in the BIOS and don't support APM or ACPI. I
figured this out after turning off standby and hibernation which caused them
to stop with the BSODs, and verified with Compaq. Just thought posting the
answer would help someone sometime. Again, all help and responses were much
appreciated. :)
