BSOD: Hardware Device Malfunction

I'm getting BSOD's under winXp for the first time.
I've got dx9.0b, 8500le, sblive digital, 1.6DuronXP, 512mbSDAM, Kt7a.

BSOD happens mostly when using 3d games, (once when playing divx movie with
5.1 ac3 sound). The error does not give detail to what hardware has caused
error, but says only something like
"Hardware Malfunction, Call you device/system vendor".
Also the sound hangs in a repetetive manor, producing only "thud-thud-thud"
over and over again about 1-2 thud per sec.

I tried reinstalling sound/video drivers, easy off ram latency etc, no
overclocking, but still it's there.

Now i've had some power-outs lately, where i forced system to shutdown, thus
maybe causing corrupt data on hdd.
Can it be some directx files getting damaged that cause this? If so how can
I fix it?

Thanks in advance

Try and not use the #1 PCI slot
in the bios reset configuration data-YES, boot and play a game, if that doesn't work
remove the sound card physically and boot -shut down and reinstall the SC
VIA chipset? 4in1 version?

I did as you said. There was no device in pci1 slot. I reinstalled soundcard
drivers, reset bios ESCD data, via chipset drivers, but did not help. I
found this in WCPUID :

Why are all those devices (audio, vga, ethernett) using IRQ7 ? Is this
supposed to be like that?

in today's ACPI boards and windows the use of 1 IRQ amongst many peripherals is common. May I suggest another couple of things. 1 if
you have the setting 'PnP OS installed'? set to NO. set again ESCD reset, If that doesn't work remove all hardware except for
memory, CPU, PSU, video, w/1 Hard drive(with the OS), SC. No USB devices. I see that you are running 2 NICS, for sharing no doubt..
I would remove one of those and only leave what you need to produce the problem.

I just disables "Enable PnP OS" from bios, reinstalled Cat4.2 and Via4in1,
and Violá!
It's working now, no crashes what so ever.

Even got a 1200 points increase in 3dmark2001se. Now doing 8432 (compared to
7135 before) on herc.8500le (255/250)64mb, winxp, duron1600, 512mb pc133,
kt7a. Not bad i guess.

§¨*@ i got that dreaded bsod again while playing Morrowind for about 10-12
minutes... Damn it. Could it be something wrong with IDE setup? I think that
was the last thing I touched besides upgrading the cpu..
