Hardware Malfunction.

I am having this annoying problem.
I have my PC on 24/7 (well, i try to) because i run a number of services.

Now over the last couple of weeks it has happened quite frequently that i
turn on the monitor and see a black (not blue) screen that says:

*** Hardware malfunction

Call your hardware vendor for support

*** The system has halted ***

And that's it. I have been able to find a site or two that mention a
variation on this message in great detail, but all of the sites that i've
found also mention a number that indicates what piece of hardware has caused
the error.
Trouble is that i don't get such a number so i'm stumped. If i don't know
what piece of kit is malfunctioning i can't replace it.

So my question is, does anyone know what piece of hardware usually causes
this specific error?

I'm such a scatterbrain. I forgot to mention a couple of things.

- I have checked inside the PC for dust in case some fans were clogged and
overheating, but there is hardly any dust. Not in or under the fan of the
graphics card (GeForce2 Ti) nor in or under the CPU fan or anywhere else.

- My hardware config hadn't changed before i got the messages.

- There is no specific time at which this happens. There also isn't a
specific time interval between two failures.

- Checked the system logs, there is no sign of any hardware causing errors.
The system just halts and no logs are created. Not that i can find anyway.
(Did a search for recently altrered files but found nothing that could
indicate the exact cause of the error)

With this extra info, i hope that the answer to my question has gotten a
little closer (i doubt it though, because this behaviour is too weird).

The color of house and garage doors is regulated by city bylaws (a purple door get you a fine). It is also illegal to have a clothes line in your backyard. (Canada, Kanata City Law)

Do you have the system protected by a UPS?

Do you have the system protected by a UPS?

Actually, yes. Do you suspect the problem is UPS related?
