Extract Msvcrt.dll from your Windows CD. It may be corrupt or has been
changed by the addition of software.

Not an IE problem. Explorer is your version of Window's Desktop.

How can I fix this.

Post in a newsgroup which supports your OS.
My guess is you could get some clues about the cause
from the Stack Back Trace if you activated Dr Watson
but I'm not familiar with your OS (whatever it is; it isn't NTx).

The thing that would be interesting to know however it is found out
is what program was calling the one that crashed. (The one that
crashed is the "RunTime" of the compiler of the programming
language that the ultimate caller was written in.)

Hmm... see if this article helps give you some background information

<title>KB325064 - Support WebCast: Troubleshooting Errors and Error Messages in Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition </title>

(MSKB Boolean search for
kbinfo AND msvcrt AND fault AND explorer
)

which coincidentally points to

Good luck
