Since I purchased this new computer last month I have been unable to access
a particular (safe) website. A message box appears saying requested page
cannot be found or you have timed out. Appears to be a browser setting since
I can access this site from my other computers. Anyone know which adjustment
is necessary ?

Hi,

Close any instances of Internet Explorer. Click start/run, type cmd and
click ok. From the prompt, run ipconfig /flushdns. When finished, close the
command prompt and retry visiting that page.

Good try Rick, but no Luck. I did get the message "successfully flushed the
DNS Revolver cache", but I still couldn't get entry to the website.

I tried changing all the settings under the Security tab to either Enable or
Prompt. Still no luck, so I reset to Default. I also listed the site in
Trusted Zone but this didn't help either.

I'd like to clarify what's happening. I can access the general site but when
I type in my user name and password, a message box reveals;
"requested page cannot be found or you have timed out".

As indicated in my initial message, I can access this site from my laptop
but cannot from this computer. My contacts at the site are stumped.

Sounds like their site associates your old computer's "signature" with your
login account. ie- your "profile" has changed. Try opening a new account.

Hi Dan,

Have you cleared the TIF folders under your user profile?

Yes, I did Rick but still no luck. Also de-activated the firewall, just in
case, but to no avail.

Hi Dan,

HOW TO: Troubleshoot Situations Where You Cannot Complete MSN Sign-up or
Connect to SSL Secured (128-Bit) Web Sites by Using Internet Explorer in
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813444

The steps in the article above may help if it's only the secure sites that
are a problem.

Success.....well sort of!

Went through that whole list Rick and the only thing I didn't do was a
System Restore because access to that website was never achieved on this
machine. However the last item on the list suggested creating a new account,
which I did and I was able to access immediately.

Thank you ever so much for your patience and indeed your expert guidance, it
was greatly appreciated. It looks like I need to do a bit more reading
because it suggests that I delete the profiles stored for this account, but
I'm reluctant to do so because I'm actually logged in as the Administrator
and I don't want to screw things up.

Once again thanks for hanging in there and helping me solve this.

Dan
