Browser picture limitations

Hi I logged on to a website today and tried to retrieve a
document. The program gave me an option to view it, but a
little box came up in the left hand corner. When I clicked
on it nothing came up. I was expecting to see the
document. This same symbol comes up every so often in
forwarding emails especially from my aunt. Does anybody
know what format it is and how come the information won't
display. I looked on the website I was on and it said that
they use .pdf. How do I get my browser to accomodate this
format.

I have adobe 5.5 Reader that's why I can't understand it.
I don't know for sure if that box icon of sorts is .pdf, I
just know that the website I visited said they store their
files in .pdf format. Is adobe supposed to work with oe?

That box icon is not what you clicked to download a file. That is what
happens when things go wrong, assuming you mean a three-coloured icon.
OE may have nothing to do with it.
If you are downloading a .pdf file, the name should be clearly shown
before the download starts.
Please supply an exact url and it can be checked out.
