Browser not functioning properly

In Win XP, IE 6 - suddenly unable to do searches and a few other functions.
Have been trying to fill out forms on various websites but cannot send them.
Click on the send button but nothing happens. Cannot send messages to
newsgroups from the Microsoft webpage, although I can send them through
Outlook Express's newsreader. Cannot submit search criteria at any search
engines. Similar problem with getting the MS Updater to function properly.
It's like the browser isn't sending data, although I can open links with no
problem.

Any ideas?
