Browser not able to access web sites while online

While visiting my in-laws, I somehow managed to screw up
their ability to access the web after I installed ad-aware
to get rid of a ton of spyware. They are running Win 98,
second edition, internet explorer 6.0.28. They dial up
though a service that checked out the connection and said
it is fine. I then ran a modem test that checked out. I
tried to add/remove internet explorer and it told me it
would try to re-install selcted missing or corrupt files
if any. Then I tried to restore an older registry, but
the earliest one wasn't old enough to help. I also tried
to reload through a setup file that re-installed ie6.0
(presumably though a previously downloaded file from
microsoft). I think the problem is with internet
explorer, and Dell told me to go to MS. After I establish
a connection, I load ie and it tells me it can't find the
page/server. It sometimes references the file
c:\windows\system\shdoclc.dll\dnserror.htm.
Interestingly, I'm able to ping Yahoo's IP address from
DOS, but I can't ping Yahoo.com. Anyone have any
suggestions for a beleagured son-in-law? I'd love to
reload ie (I guess) but I don't have a recent version on
cd/disk to do it and their pc obviously can't access the
net.

I am traveling with my laptop and have the same problem with IE as described
below... but can't see what is on the fix site because I have no browser.
Is there an alternate way to get this info?

Thanks

Jeanne

If it's exactly the same then you need to download this file. LSPFix.exe

Maybe someone will get it you if you ask.

FIRST I would try this just in case your problem(s) not the same.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.
