Browser is extremely slow

I haven't had a problem with IE 6 untill I installed
windows XP. Since the installation, the browser is
extremely and ungodly sluggish and slow. I also have the
newest netscape browser and it works perfectly fine and
fast, so that kind of isolates the problems cause. Whats
wrong and how do I fix this? Also a second problem is that
on ESPNs site I can't get any of their videos to run.
Please help me with any or both of these problems.
