Browser home page

I have my browser set to a defaul home page.. For the
last 2 days, this automatically keeps changing to
res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213
which is a web site that I have not used before and do
not recognise. I cannot get rid of this and despite
continually changing it back to my usual chosed jhome
page it keeps reverting back to this.
How can I remove this?

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I followed your advice and for at least 30 minutes I can
call up IE with my selected home page. Somehow a file
mshp.dll appeared in my Windows directory. I deleted it
but the problem came back and so did the mshp.dll file.
Replacing the host file as you described below may have
corrected the problem.

What exactly doe "RES://" in the URL actually do?
res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213

Thanks - Jack

It tells IE to look inside the following file on the hard drive, in this
case, look inside mshp.dll.

And, mshp.dll is actually a HTML code embedded inside a DLL file.

I hope you used (e-mail address removed) which is in the From field and not
Reply to Sender, which won't work.

I finally found the fix for this stupid problem.
CWShredder will take care of this annoying hijacker problem. The
problem comes from a MSS VM Java exploit. The update comes from
windowsupdate to keep it from happening again. Also try Hijack This
out. These can be found at
