browser hijacking

B

Bill W.

I am using IE 6.0 SP1. My browser has been hijacked by
http://drusearch.com/user6/ this shows a search engine
page instead of my selected home page. I have purchased a
program called Spyware X-Terminator which stops browser
hijackers, spyware and adware, but it can't seem to stop
this hijacking from happening. I someone has a cure please
let me know.

Bill,

Download and install HijackThis. I immediately search for updates. Run a
Scan, but do nothing with the results found. Post your HJT log to
SpywareInfo forums, and they will help to uncover the items which need
fixing.

Read the Tutorial for Hijack This.

Download Hijack This
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Save the file, and extract it (if the .zip file is selected) to your hard
drive. Place it in a folder that is permanent, and not a temp folder or it
will be unable to make back-ups. Same with the .exe file if you choose that
route.

Your machine may be/is infected with spyware/malware. Go
get copies of Ad-Aware and Spybot (both free) and run them.
That should clean your machine.

You might want to consider using a different browswer such
as Firefox, Opera, etc. They all have built-in pop-up
blocking so the ads which install this stuff on your system
don't even appear.

Another option might be to get Googles Toolbar which also
has built-in pop-up blocking.
