Hi. Do the various browser accelerators really speed up website browsing if you have dial-up ?
And if they do, how cum there are so many different prices? Thanks. deango

Depends - some are legit, others are hogwash. The only way to speed up
graphics (once you've reach max compression) is to make the files smaller,
by making the graphics less quality or less colors. Some examples:
Changing from True Color to 32k Color
Changing from 32k Color to 16k Color
Making less details

If the company selling you the accelerator and processes regular websites
through any or all of the above processes for graphics files, then yes, I'd
say they are legit and are speeding up your browsing, as any of the changes
are hardly noticeable with the naked eye.

Sleepless. I know, I know. I'm a worthless piece of unmitigated pile of fragmented 0 bytes. deango

No, as this would violate the laws of physics. Anyone still using dialup
deserves to suffer.

There is one being pushed in the UK as a speed up. Investigation shows
it works by taking all graphics and reworking them at lower resolution
and lossier format. So you do *not* get to see the page as intended

And the speed up measured by one paper's test indicate that the effect
is much smaller than touted
