i am having a bit of a strange problem. we have over 150
machines on our network and only 26 of them are showing up
in network neighborhood. everything looks ok on the
clients and servers. our domain is 2000 ad and there is a
mix of nt4, 2000 pro and xp clients on the network.
when i do browstat status it is showing the correct master
browser. and my wins database looks fine..

any ideas of what could be causing this problem.

WINS is not the problem. DNS is the problem. Your DNS server is not
registering your Dynamic DNS clients (2000, XP) from the DHCP server.

I'd check the DHCP server and see that it is set to register DNS entries for
DDNS clients. The client PCs should also be set to have the correct DNS
suffix in their computer name.

You can see this behavior if a local segment master browser changes.
Browsing is a pain the rear to troubleshoot. I would start with the
q-article below and the link to Browser Console. Those should help a great
deal.
